Jose Perez, 48, was arrested on Thursday, July 25, in Hempstead by Nassau County Police after he was pulled over for making an improper turn near an intersection, Nassau County Police said.
Perez was pulled over in his 2002 Honda sedan near the intersection of Jackson and Washington streets, police said.
An investigation found that Perez was driving under the influence with this two children ages 1 and 2 years old in the vehicle, police said.
Perez was charged with DWI/Leandra's Law, two counts of aggravated unlicensed operation, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He will be arraigned on Friday, July 26 in Hempstead.
The children were turned over to their mother.
